Memorial

 

Harley Lazenby Jr., 77, of Marion, passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Friday, November 8, 2013 after a 6 year battle with Lymphoma.  Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.  Friends and family may visit 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.  

 

Harley was born December 9, 1935 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Harley and Lena (Wiedmyer) Lazenby.  Harley married Carolyn Reid on January 1, 1974 in Cedar Rapids.  He worked at Bud’s Machine Company as a machinist.  Harley became the manager until November of 1964.  He moved to Vinton to become manager of Cutlass Gear and Manufacturing until December of 1974.  Harley started H.L. Company until he retired in 2003.  Harley was successful, self educated, honest, respected businessman and family man.  He knew how to plan and follow through with anything he faced in life.  Harley loved camping, roasting marshmallows over the fire, winters in Texas, cruising with Kay, farming with Ed, hanging out with Jean, his greatest love was time spent with his family. 

 

He is survived by his wife, of 39 years, Carolyn Lazenby; children, Kay (Mike) Rockot, Jean McGee (Rick Reinecke) and Ed Lazenby; 9 grandchildren: Stacy Lodge, Robin Weber, Katrina Kimble, Parker, Paul, Peter and Patrick Lazenby, Kyle and Luke McGee; 9 great grandchildren; 5 sister-in-laws, Evelyn Carver, Rose Lockhart, Jane Schantz, Patricia Reid and Jean Reid; 2 brother-in-laws, Oliver Walkner and Mike Reid.  Harley was everybody’s hero and a very proud family man.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Barbara and first wife Dorothy Walkner. 

 

Harley was a great husband, father, friend and grandfather.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

The family would like to thank all the staff at Hall-Perrine Cancer Center and Unity Point Hospice for their love, support and tender care given to Harley.
