Dorothy Cecelia Goin Smith has rejoined her heavenly Father. Born on March 22, 1920, she was the eldest child of Arthur and Cecilia Goin of Peoria, IL.  

Dorothy was a wife, mother and a beloved sister with an unwavering love for her family. She actively spoiled her grandchildren, entertained them with her storytelling and always encouraged their creative pursuits. Dorothy loved the arts, music, and sports especially volleyball and was a member of the Franklin Junior High State Championship volleyball team in Peoria, IL. Over the years she enjoyed bowling, needlepoint, and attending her grandchildren’s recitals and sports events.

For 44 years, Dorothy and husband Louis Smith were owners of Mason Dry Cleaners where she worked for many years before becoming a full-time grandmother.

She was preceded by her loving husband of 53 years, Louis Smith and by her brother, Archer “Bud” Goin. She is survived by her sister Vivian W. Smith, of Peoria, IL,; daughters, Patricia Smith Hollis of Cedar Rapids, IA , and Irma Louise Greenfield and husband Dr. Elisha J. Greenfield of Chicago,IL; three grandchildren, Leslie C. Hollis of Iowa City, IA, Deana L. Greenfield of Chicago, IL, and husband Ben Rodriguez, and David E. Greenfield of Chicago, IL.

A private service was held on Friday, December 6, 2013.  In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the Hospice House Of Mercy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Wei Li and the third floor nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center and Dr. Amanda Sommerfeldt and the wonderful staff at the Hospice House of Mercy for their many acts of kindness shown to us during these past weeks.
