Norma Vivian Montross Stoneman, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a brief battle with cancer. Per Norma's wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
She is survived by her sister, Marian (Roger) Sirowy; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Montross and Patricia Hawley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brothers, Stanley and Sidney.
Norma was born November 4, 1927 in Millersburg, the daughter of Earl and Vivian Montross. She graduated from Millersburg High School in 1945 and then attended UNI.
She was united in marriage to Donald Stoneman on May 31, 1948. Norma and Donald moved to Cedar Rapids in 1950 where she worked as a secretary until she and Don moved on a farm. When they retired, they moved to Tucson, AZ where they lived for 25 years. In September, 2010, Norma moved back to Cedar Rapids.
She loved doing her many crafts and she made beautiful items out of stained glass. She was always a friend to everybody. While living in Tucson, she had two special friends, Jan Reschke and Carole O'Conner.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice or the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
