Ronald M. Calvert, 77, of 276 Drinkward St. NW died Wednesday February 23, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 AM on Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday where there will be a Prayer Vigil at 2:00 p.m. and Masonic Service at 3:00 PM.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly, son, Richard of Waterloo, two step-sons, Casey (Angela) Jones of Cedar Rapids, and Barry (Mary) Pickart of Peosta: two step-daughters, Kelly (Donnie Mull) Hook of Onslow and Chris (Jeff) Griffith of Derby, Kansas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Mitchell, Lindsey, Kelsey, Abby, Aryn and Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-son Brett Pickart.
Ron was born on February 16, 1934 in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of Richard and Virginia Martin Calvert. He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1952 and attended Culver-Stockton College. He married Beverly Michael on March 3, 1977 in Marion. . Ron was an electronics specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration and retired from there after 35 years of service.
He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Fideltas Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, El Kahir Shrine, past president of The National Association of Retired Government Employees, as well as proudly serving in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He was an avid golfer, hunter, especially deer and was a great joke teller. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
