I first met Joyce 10 years ago during a business meeting, but she quickly became a friend. Over the years she and Dan became like family. Joyce was a teacher, mentor, friend, confidante and so much more. I missed seeing her become community activist but was not at all surprised - she loved Shellsburg as though it had been part of her life forever. Dan, kids and grandkids - my thoughts and prayers go out to you in your loss.

Joyce Pence was a successful business woman and community activist, but she was also a loving mom who raised three children and cherished her grandchildren. I know this because I had the privilege of being her daughter. My life is forever changed by her loss, but I'll always carry with me the lessons she taught - compassion, charity, leadership, dedication, and love of family. God bless you Mom.

Joyce was a classmate and friend in high school in Dysart. She was my partner on the debate team one year. We lost touch over the years, but I did get to see her at our class reunions, the last being our 50th in 2008. You have my deepest sympathy and know that I will miss her.

Grandma it has only been four months and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think about you and how important you were in my life. Thank you for everything you taught me, the love you shared with me, and happiness you showed me that could be found in life. I will forever cherish every moment spent with you from laying on the bed and trying to roll grandper off the end, to sliding down the stair case at the old house, to decorating cookies around Christmas, and your wonderful chex mix. Thank you for everything Grandma, I will love you forever and you will forever be in my heart, soul, and mind. I miss you Grandma.

Grandma,
This Sunday it will have been a year since you left us. Everyday I am in some small way reminded of you, it still brings a large amount of sadness to my heart and soul; but everyday you remind me to smile and enjoy life. You taught me so much through your life and through your death you have taught me more then I thought I would ever know. You have taught me exactly how precious, dear, and fleeting life truly is. You have taught me to embrace life every single day and find joy in every single small detail of it. You have taught me that belief, passion, and hard work are truly what makes dreams come true. You have taught me the most important things in life are your family and love and with those two you can over come any obstacles. You taught me that is was okay to make mistakes as long as those mistakes became the building blocks for future success.
I wish there was more lessons you could still teach me here on this Earth but I look forward to the lessons you have left behind for me to discover on my own. I can only thank you for everything you have ever done for me, for helping shape me into the man I have become today, for the family you helped raise and the rock you were in everyone's life. I truly am blessed to be your Grandson and I truly love and miss you with all of my heart Grandma.
Every time, I leave the 3rd green at Wildcat, I look to your flower bed, look to you above me and blow you a kiss. I hope you are receiving them all and all the thoughts/prayers that accompany them.
I wish you could be here for the holidays and we could celebrate a real Christmas one last time but I know you are going to have a huge Christmas dinner up there with the rest of the family and the pups. Tell everyone up there that I love them.
Thank you Grandma
I love and miss you.
Zach
