Memorial

Mark A. Ormsby, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 2, 2011 at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. David O'Connor officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn; children Michele (Jerry) Johnson of Cedar Rapids and Mark C. (Sheri) Ormsby of Davenport, IA; and one granddaughter Sarah Katherine Ormsby.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Katherine Ormsby, two brothers, and two sisters.

Mark was born April 29, 1930 in Kokomo, IN, the son of Charles and Katherine (Dwyer) Ormsby. He married Marilyn Crawford on May 7, 1955 in Kokomo, IN. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was a United States Army veteran of Vietnam. Mark served with the US Army in France and Germany as well as NATO in Brussels Belgium and the Pentagon in Washington. Just prior to his retirement from the Army he was Deputy Commander of Rock Island Arsenal. After his Army Service he was a district manager for Iowa/Illinois Gas and Electric. Mark was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mark's name may be directed to the American Heart Association or to the Alzheimer's Association
