Nellie Meyer, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, December 3, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Interment: Linwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Nellie is survived by four daughters, Phransie Drew and Marvie (Ted) Wisniewski, both of Chicago, IL, and Barb (Howard) Strobel and Cindy Maker, both of Cedar Rapids; sister, Lucile Hamed of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Melanie (Rich) Ecker, Tom (Carmen) Vrzal IV, Sherry (Russell) Carrano, Art (Erica) Stork, Becky Maker, Gary Maker, and Nancy (David) McCoy; and great grandchildren, Kyle Ecker, Tom (Crystal) Vrzal V, Jena Vrzal, Katrina Vrzal, Russell Dominic Carrano, Skye Ary, Ernie, Rachel and Leah Maker, Finnigan McCoy, and Artie, Sophia, and Eric Stork.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Meyer; two daughters, Nancy, nee Fritz Sorcek and Donna Marie Fritz; grandson and wife, Jefferson and Karen Vrzal; great grandson, Joshua Vrzal; siblings, Bill and Chuck Goyer, Amelia Keith, and Velma Fogarty; and former husbands, Donald Fritz, Henry Feuss, and Marvin Landis.

Nellie was born July 5, 1925 in Cedar Rapids to Fred and Pearl Goyer. She spent her life as a loving mother who enjoyed gardening, canning, singing and dancing. Nellie went on to be a Nurse's Aid at Lakeview Manor in Weyauwega, Wisconsin. She retired from Lakeview and moved back to Cedar Rapids. Nellie was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post # 788.

The family would like to thank St. Luke's Hospice staff and the Fifth Floor East and West nursing staff, her social worker, Bruce, and nurse, MaryAnne for the wonderful care and kindness given to Nellie.
