Memorial

Marcia J. Bunge, was born April 11, 1950 to Victor and Erma Bunge in Mason City, Iowa the family lived in Garner at the time.

Marcia went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the age of 58.

Survivors are her brothers, Jim Bunge and wife Nadene of Rochester, Minnesota, Mark Bunge and wife Judy of Madison, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Shortly after birth her parents realized she was a special person afflicted with Down Syndrome. Her parents were not willing to institutionalize Marcia as was common practice at the time. This began a life long campaign for people with special needs which lead to Marcia's mother being instrumental in founding both the state and national Associations for Retarded Children. Marcia was always a loving child and would accompany Erma as she visited other families facing similar challenges, demonstrating that children like Marcia were like all other children.

Her parents made every effort to integrate her into society. She participated in Options of Linn County for 37 years where she found employment, friendship and companionship. Linnhaven Group Homes provided a home and many services. Marcia loved to participate in Special Olympics as a cheerleader. She enjoyed singing, group dances, Camp Courageous and cats. All who came to know Marcia commented what a loving person she was. She has many friends in the Cedar Rapids area that will miss her cheerful disposition.
