Judith Anne Grove died at her home wrapped in the love of her husband on May 20, 2007 after a long struggle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a longer struggle with severe depression. Though pulmonary disease took her life, depression robbed her of the joy of living. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral home on Thursday from 5PM to 8PM. The Rev. Barbara Schlacter will officiate.

Survivors include her husband Doug Anderson of Cedar Rapids; her brother William Vicky of Woodbury, Minnesota; her sisters, Margaret of Cedar Rapids and Janet of West Des Moines; and her sister-in-law, Anna Dains Jeff of Lauderdale, Minnesota. She will be also missed by her nieces Christy Meyer Scott of Cedar Rapids, Elizabeth Whitehill of Fort Pierce, Florida and Olivia Dains of Lauderdale, Minnesota; and her nephews, Ed Deanna Kramer of Woodbury, Minnesota and Colin Dains of Lauderdale, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Bauer, and her parents.

Judy was born on May 17, 1951 in Cedar Rapids to Merrill and LaVonne Wilson Grove. She spent most of her early years in Cedar Rapids and Marion where she graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1969. In 1973 she received her B.A. in Political Science and Urban Studies from Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she was active in student government. It was in Mankato that Judy met Doug Anderson, who became her husband in Minneapolis on June 22, 1974. In 1978 Judy entered the University of Iowa College of Law. After receiving her J.D. degree in 1980, she practiced law in Marion and Cedar Rapids for 15 years, working primarily in family law.

Judy was a founding member of the Linn County Women Attorneys and also belonged to the Linn County and Iowa State Bar Associations, NOW, the Professional Women's Network, the American Sewing Guild, and Christ Episcopal Church. A life-long Democrat, Judy worked on numerous political campaigns.

The great joys of her life were spending time with family and friends and expressing her creativity through her sewing and craft work. Judy's favorite place was Door County, WI where she and Doug spent many wonderful vacations.

Judy Grove will be remembered as a dedicated attorney and a loving and generous wife, daughter, sibling, aunt and friend.

Judy and Doug are extremely grateful for the kind and competent care she received from Dr. J. David Cowden and his staff, from Mercy Hospital, from the Hospice of Mercy, and from the Reverend Doctors Bill Puglise and Barbara Schlacter of Christ Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be made to the Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
