Kira Marie Carstensen, 20, of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a long illness. Mass of Resurrection: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Monday from 4PM to 8PM. There will be a Vigil Service at 7PM. The Rev. David O'Conner and The Rev. John Gossman will officiate.
Surviving are her parents, John and Mary Carstensen; a brother, Peter Carstensen; a sister, Lura Carstensen all of Cedar Rapids; her grandparents, Jack and Patricia Carstensen of Cedar Rapids and her grandmother, Elizabeth McNamee of Cincinnati, OH; her aunts and uncles, Kris Carstensen, Kelly and Bob Trachta all of Cedar Rapids, Karlen and Tom Howard of Urbandale, Leslie and Brian Anderson of Great Falls, VA, Sarah and Jerome Kramer of New York City, NY, Kyle Carstensen of Chicago, IL, Michael and Cathy McNamee, Kathy and Bill Meier, Patrick McNamee all of Cincinnati, OH, Ken and Donna McNamee of Farragut, TN, Joe and Missie McNamee of Amelia, OH, and Kevin McNamee of Cleveland, OH; and many special cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, James McNamee and an aunt Peggy McNamee.
Kira was born December 30, 1986 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of John B. and Mary McNamee Carstensen. As a child she loved playing with friends and cousins, soccer, dancing and gymnastics. She especially loved skiing and riding roller coasters. Kira was a 2005 graduate of Xavier High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Xavier Ambassadors, Take Charge, Key Club and the Xavier Golf Team. Kira was an active member of Tanager Place Intergenerational Advisory Board and was a charter member of Children's Hospital of Iowa Youth Advisory Council. She received much support and enjoyment from the University of Iowa Dance Marathon. Attending Dance Marathon was a highlight of each year for Kira.
A memorial fund has been established with contributions going to the University of Iowa Dance Marathon and Xavier High School.
