Lawrence E. "Honk" Meyer, 90, of 136 36th Ave. SW. died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services at 11 AM on Wed. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Christine Wagner-Hecht will officiate. Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence and his wife, Charmon, of Durant and Robert and his wife, Dr. Donna, of Mt. Vernon, MO. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Keri Buddy Jones, David Ekaterina Meyer, Melissa, Sara, and Mindy Meyer, Heath Michele Kusel and Heather Kusel, 9 great grandchildren, 3 nieces, Sharon Garland Groom, Sheri Jim Comried, and Denise Bob Gandy, three nephews, James Leigh Meyer, Gerald Rasmussen and Emmett Gay Rasmussen. He was preceded in death by a brother, Louis and a grandchild, Stacey Kusel.
Honk was born on Oct. 31, 1915 in Grundy Center, the son of George and Carrie Wald Meyer. He married June M. Barr on Dec. 23, 1939 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2004. Honk was a postal carrier and retired from the post office after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Hanford Post No. 5, VFW Post No. 788, N.A.L.C. and proudly served in the Army during WWII. Honk was a devoted family man and will be greatly missed by his friends and beloved family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation in Honk's name.
