Coping with the Holidays

It is natural for grief to intensify as the holiday season approaches. Surviving this time of year without that special someone can be very difficult. To assist our families, we have developed a seminar entitled "Coping With The Holidays" which is held every year just before Thanksgiving. The seminar provides specific ideas and useful hints for making the holidays just a little easier.

Parents Living with Loss

Parents Living with Loss is a bereavement group that meets monthly and is open to all who mourn the loss of a child—regardless of the age of the child at the time of death, the years since the loss occurred, or the funeral home that was used. The group welcomes visitors each month under the gentle guidance of two mothers who lost their children to tragic circumstances.

Meetings are held at the Cedar Memorial Family Center & Library. For questions, please call or email Dr. Jim Coyle, Human Relations Director, at (319) 389-2165 or jcoyle@cedarmemorial.com.

Camp Embracing Memories

This FREE children’s grief camp is sponsored by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery working in conjunction with UnityPoint Hospice. It is the only camp of its kind in Eastern Iowa.

Designed to help children effectively cope with loss in a safe, accepting environment, activities focus on the grieving process, encouraging interaction with others who have experienced similar losses. Trained Hospice staff and volunteers provide education and support to enhance coping skills and abilities, while still allowing children to feel connected to the loved one who died.

Lodging and meals are included.
