Marie Valentine Mettler Osborne, 90, of 1122 2nd Avenue SW, died at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Friday, May 13, 2005 after a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Turner West Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Pleiness of Good News Baptist Church. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Turner West Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Survivors include one daughter, Lila Larry Slaymaker of Cedar Rapids; four sons, Lee Osborne of Fitchburg, MA, Royce Nancy Osborne of Flagstaff, AZ, Ernie Jan Osborne and Clair Elaine Osborne, all of Cedar Rapids; fourteen grandchildren; one step granddaughter; twenty great grandchildren; and one step great-granddaughter. She is also survived by seven cats, Pebbles, Chelsea, Babi, Frisky, Chloe, Toby, and Zena.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence, a daughter Jean Northrup, a sister, two daughters-in-law, Nancy Osborne and Lera Osborne, two grandsons, David and an infant grandson Daniel Osborne; her favorite cat, Kitty, and two parakeets.

Marie was born February 15, 1915 in Glenwood, Iowa to Samuel and Clara Mettler. She married Clarence on November 6, 1935 in Galena. He died in 1961.

Marie was a homemaker and later worked at Mercy Hospital and retired from housekeeping at St. Luke's Hospital in 1977. She attended the Salvation Army and later the Church of God of Prophecy.

Marie enjoyed hand sewing, embroidery, and made quilts and latch hook rugs. She enjoyed walks and watching birds. Her favorite bird is a Cardinal and her favorite flower is a Hyacinth.

Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend and
will be greatly missed for her quiet and caring ways.
