Memorial

Orville L. Thomas, 91, of the Hiawatha Care Center died there on Friday August 13, 2010 after an extended illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 10:00 AM on Monday Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a sister, Ethel (Russell) Wiebold of Westminster, Colorado; brother and sister-in-law Milton and Onalee Arnold of Marion; sisters-in-law, Alice Arnold of Dubuque, Esther Thomas of Anamosa, Dee Thomas of Acton, California and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, four brothers and four sisters.

Orville was born on January 15, 1919 in Iowa County, the son of Hugh and Iva Ochs Thomas. He served his country in WWII as a Machinist’s Mate First Class, US Navy. Orville was united in marriage to Doris E. Arnold on August 15, 1953 in Central City. He was the owner of Orv’s Brake and Alignment in Cedar Rapids for nearly 40 years. Following retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery. Orville was a member of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed playing bridge, music, pitching horseshoes and making ice cream with family and friends.

Memorial donations may be given to Echo Hill Presbyterian Church in Orville’s name.
