Dorothy (Wieditz) Gibson Means, 82, formerly of Cedar Rapids, made her peaceful journey to heaven on Saturday, March 6, 2010 after a brief stay at Birmingham Green Nursing Home in Manassas, Virginia. She had been living with her daughter, Kristie, for two years prior to that.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 17, at 1:00 PM at Ascension Lutheran Church, Marion, followed by inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Dorothy was born November 18, 1927, in Van Horne, IA, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Rinderknecht) Wieditz. She graduated from Van Horne High School. Dorothy married Charles C. (Gibby) Gibson on September 21, 1947; he died on April 21, 1987. On May 9, 1991 she married Jack Means; he died on January 31, 2007. Before retiring, Dorothy worked as a manager of the Lin House Gift store at Lindale Plaza.
Surviving Dorothy are three children, Kristie (Lester) Mills of Manassas, Virginia, Peggy Wullner of Raymondville, Missouri and Guy (Shannon) Gibson of North English. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Sister, Loreen (Beryl) Eller, of Ft. Myers, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Harold, Howard and Robert Wieditz.
Dorothy was a wonderful mother, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, shopping and playing the slots. She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital Hospice.
