Donald “Jr.” Hegarty, 74, of 311 Sunset Dr. in Stanwood died
Saturday February 27, 2010 at the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab after a long illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Randy Kruse will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday.

Survivors include his wife, Joann, two sons, Pastor Randy (Julie) Kruse of Stanwood, and Gregory (Beth) Hegarty of Cabot, Arkansas, two daughters, Rhonda (Mike) Gutwiler and Jill (Todd) Sawyer all of Stanwood; a brother, John (Trudy) of Cedar Rapids and two sisters, Winifred Becker of Florence, Alabama and Mary (Gerald) Riedel of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michelle, Grant, Jessy, Rachel, Tyler, Nathan and Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jr. was born on September 7, 1935 in Cedar County, the son of Donald and Frances Springer Hegarty. He married Beverly “Joann” Lala on February 7, 1964 in Dubuque. Jr. was the manager of Stanwood Skelgas for many years and was the owner and operator of the Clarence Motor Co. He later founded Junction Auto Sales in Lisbon, and owned car washes in Lisbon and Stanwood as well as Lisbon Auto Body.

Jr. was a former member of the Lions Club. He was a longtime volunteer firefighter in Stanwood and was a faithful member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Stanwood.

Jr. enjoyed his many entrepreneurial endeavors but especially the time he spent with his friends and beloved family.
