Memorial

Esther “June” Munson, 79 of Cedar Rapids, died on Saturday February 27, 2010 in her home from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. Sick and tired of being sick and tired, June succumbed after a dignified battle surrounded by her loving family. Memorial services at 3:00 PM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday.

Preceded in death by her parents, Edward Johnson Perdue and Elsie Clark Perdue; brothers, Robert Perdue and Edward Perdue, nephews, David Perdue and Chris Perdue, and her beloved aunt and uncle, Esther and Howard Flowers.

June was born on June 4, 1930 to Edward Johnson Perdue and Elsie Clark Perdue in Newark, Ohio. She graduated from Newark High School in 1948. Her father’s job brought her to Cedar Rapids where June met her husband, Bob, while working at Collins Radio and on June 7, 1953, they were married. For 43 years, Bob and June owned and operated Munson Electric until their retirement in 1997.

June is survived by the love of her life and husband of 56 years, Robert “Bob” Munson; her children, Ole (Julie) of Arizona; Signe (John Henderson); Gunnar (Jean); and Erik (Becky) all of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Odin (Chrissy), Robert Benesh and Will Riepe, Gavin, Grant, Tracy, and Hillary and Tanner, and her great grandchildren Aspen, Ashton, and Jaxon and Owen; her sister, Virginia Svestka of Evansville, IN; her brother, Richard (Patricia) Perdue of Mary Esther, FL; her “other” daughter, Kim Smith of Marion, and her lifelong best friend, Marjorie “Petie” Jones, and many, many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be directed to St. Luke’s Hospice.
