Miriam R. Overley

Miriam was an older sister of a classmate of mine, Bill Rogers. She taught home economics at Franklin Jr. High. After she married Charles they moved to Chicago. Bill and I were visiting them on December 7, 1941, when we heard on the radio the bombing of Pearl Habor. Her husband had to report for duty only a few days later. When Miriam return to teaching (up until the war married women were not allowed to teach)she was assigned to a high school in a rather tough neighborhood. Miriam had a hard time at first until she brought a car engine into the classroom and used it as the basis for her chemistry and physics lesson. From then on she had full attention. Her brothers Robert, Wayne,Bill, and sister Phyliss were all very proud of her
