Joyce Darlene was born to William and Dennie Harrelson and raised in Cedar Rapids. She was employed at Rockwell Collins for 35 years, retiring in 1986. While employed, Joyce was a dedicated union steward. On May 30 1969, she married Reede Thompson, he preceded her in death in 1994. She raised her own three children, as well as three granddaughters, Tracy, Shelly and Dee Dee, following the death of their mother, Janet in July 1970. Her family loved to gather at the farm as much as she loved having them. Joyce provided for her family, loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered most for a woman who was never afraid to speak her mind.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice.
