Memorial
Christina M. Johnson, 65, of 360 Park Terrace SE. died Tuesday February 16, 2010 at the Meth-Wick Community from complications of Alzheimer’s. Memorial services at 1:00 PM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Donald, two sons, Anthony Johnson, stationed with the U.S. Marines in Afghanistan, Joshua Johnson of Portland, Oregon and a step-son, Benjamin (JoAnne) Johnson of Trumbull, Connecticut; a grandson, Jeremiah of Charlotte, North Carolina; her mother, Suzanna Doorduijn, three sisters, Els (Ben) Caljouw-van der Vorm, Anneke (Ton) van Santen-van der Vorm, and Marian van der Vorm; three brothers, Otto (Mieke) van der Vorm, Kees (Nel) van der Vorm, and Rex (Maaike) van der Vorm all of the Netherlands. She was preceded in death by her father.
Christina was born on March 10, 1944 in The Hague, Netherlands, the daughter of Jacobus and Suzanna van der Vorm. Christina immigrated to the United States to New York when she turned twenty one. She was employed as a nanny for several families with whom she has maintained contact over the years. She later moved to Iowa and married Leo Klodt and lived in Perry until his death. She moved to Iowa City where she met and married Dr. Donald Johnson on November 28, 1981. She graduated from Kirkwood Community College with a degree as an Orthopedic Physicians Assistant.
Christina enjoyed classical music, was very proud to be an American and was an avid gardener, planting over 1000 tulips at her home. She was a wonderful wife and mother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. “ The family would like to thank the staff at Meth-Wick; Kelly, Cindy, Dondee, Keely, Jenny and Shannon and Christina’s long-time caregiver, Shelly Benson for the loving and compassionate care they provided.”
A memorial fund has been established in Christina’s name.
