Everett E. “Rick” Casteel, 60, of Cedar Rapids, died at St. Luke’s Hospital, Thursday, February 4, 2010. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O’Connor. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Kristi; children, Naomi (Travis) Thompson and Joshua Casteel, all of Cedar Rapids and Rebekah (Mark) Latchis of Woodstock, MD; his mother, Betty Casteel of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Barbara Morean Porter of Sioux Falls, SD, Dawn Buxton of Aurora, CO, and Candice Brown of Atlanta, GA.; grandchildren, Emma, Garmai, and Madeline Thompson, James Latchis, and baby Latchis due March, 2010; and many nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Everett.

Rick was born September 13, 1949 in Battle Creek, MI to Everett and Betty Casteel. He grew up primarily in Maryland and South Dakota. He graduated from Bethel College in St. Paul, MN with a math teaching degree. He taught junior high math in Richfield, MN. Rick married Kristi Elrod on August 11, 1973 in Sioux Falls, SD. He served in the US Army and was discharged from active duty as a Captain in 1978. He then went on to the North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated with a Masters degree in counseling. Rick founded his own business, Air Management, in 1979 which his family continues to operate. Rick also founded Caleb Ministries, a counseling and mediation agency in Cedar Rapids, which included Man to Man Ministries. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church where he helped start the Men of the Eucharist ministry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Men of the Eucharist.
