Leah Ann & Ken and family,Pat and family, brothers & sisters: Even tho we are states apart, I will keep all of you in thoughts and prayers. My deepest feelings can't always find their way from hearts to words. I wish there was something I could say to make things easier for all of you. A special memory was of Cyril's oldest sister, Marjorie being able to visit him at his home in Asheville, North Carolina. Cyril was so pleased that she was able to make the trip and have so much enjoyment. Another special memory was just several years ago when Cyril was back visiting, and he, Russell & George stopped to visit in the late afternoon. It was a very hot afternoon and I had fixed something to eat, which included wilted lettuce with bacon. It was something that they remembered having from there younger days. And the evening was spent looking at the Oneida history book, the Delhi all school annual, Millville history book, Colesburg history items, and we even had a history book from the rural area of Silver Creek which included some of the Kauffman family history. At 10:30 PM we were still visiting and looking at books and they had to return to Cedar Rapids yet. Just know how much I care and that loving thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Thinking of you all, Lois Faust

Our thoughts and prayers are with Cy's family. We had the opportunity to know Cy when he moved to our Arden (Asheville NC area) neighborhood about 20 years ago. He quickly became a member of our extended family, joining us for holiday meals and we spent a lot of time together helping each other out and just visiting. Cy joined us and our grandson in playing baseball together in his driveway when Nicholas was just learning the game as a 5 year old. We hated to lose such a good friend, but know the move to Virgina in 2003 was for the best. I know his family appreciated his being near and to be able to visit more often. Cy taught us many things about life and history and gave us an appreciation for how we should live life to the fullest.

Both my mother, Helen Nicklas, and I were honored to have called Cy "friend". Mom met him while they were both living at Elm Park Estates in Roanoke, VA where they became fast friends. (I think it was their politics that drew them together at first :) ) Eventually he moved to Pheasant Ridge and she into our home, but they remained in touch via cards and Mom's occasional visit to Elm Park. We knew Cy was not doing well in January, but were deeply saddened today when we learned of his passing earlier this year. For the brief time we knew him, he was always smiling, always engaging to talk to, and ever the consummate gentleman. He made you feel important when you talked to him. Having lost my own grandparents at a very young age, I very much enjoyed his company. I know my mom will miss his friendship; I will, too. Although we never met any of his family, we thank them for sharing him with us however briefly. We belatedly send you our deepest sympathies.
