Richard “Dick” Steenhoek, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died January 16, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife Betty; daughters Nancy Schmitt and husband Andy of Springfield, MO, Cyndie Moffitt and husband C.J. of Cedar Rapids, Kay Jordan and husband Larry of Cedar Rapids, and Pam Hyde of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Jamie Stevenson and husband Ryan, Jodi Moffitt, Shonda Jordan (Dustin), Danielle McKown and husband Gary, Hunter Elvidge, and Skylar Hyde; great grandchildren Sophia, Keegan, Jayden, Gary, Gavin, and Katelyn; 3 step grandchildren; his dog Buddy; as well as extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Russell Steenhoek.

Dick was born August 4, 1930 in Jones County the son of William and Ann (Herr) Steenhoek. He was united in marriage to Betty L. French on February 21, 1953 in Wyoming. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed in security at Rockwell Collins from 1961 until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of American Legion Hanford Post #5 and the USS Helena group. He enjoyed time spent with family, his dog Buddy, and above all his beloved grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
