Nadine Vanous, 84, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010, in St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her family following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday in All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. David O’Connor officiating. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 PM to 7PM on Wednesday with a Vigil service beginning at 7 PM, and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.

Survivors include her children, Susan (Richard) Wolfe of Cedar Rapids, Richard (Mary Beth) of Rochelle, Illinois, Mary Ann (Will) Stober of Alden, Iowa, James (Cathy) of Roseville, Minnesota, Carol (Dr. Todd) Langager of Cedar Rapids, and Paul (Jody) of Mason City, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, Lisa (Vic) Parcell, Dan (Kristin) Wolfe, Claire and Laura Vanous, Clint (Sarah) Stober, Chris (Devon) Stober, Michael, Carolyn, and Kevin Vanous, Karah Langager, Ethan and Sydnie Vanous, and six great grandchildren Isaiah, Arthur, and Micah Stober, Kaylee, Anna, and Teagan Parcell, and her brother Charles (Mary) Peterzalek. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Joseph.

Nadine was born November 3, 1925 in rural Tama County to Charles and Lydia Krajicek Peterzalek. She married Joseph A. Vanous on September 2, 1948 in Belle Plaine, Iowa. He passed away on January 11, 2008. Nadine was a labor and delivery nurse at Mercy Hospital. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the Czech & Slovak Museum & Library Society. She loved to travel, read, do cross-stitching, and crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
