Mildred Elizabeth Gobidas, 93, a resident of Mercy Hallmar, died there Friday, January 8, 2010. Services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Laura Smith of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and after 12:30 PM Wednesday at the chapel.
Surviving to honor her memory are two daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Derbes of Tequesta, Florida, and Michelle Behnke of Cedar Rapids, two granddaughters Danielle and Aimee Derbes, a nephew Rick (Nancy) Thornburgh of Saginaw, Michigan, a niece Claudia Fuller of Guntersville, Alabama, and a cousin Leland (Brownie) Thornburgh of Pleasantville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents Morton and Martha Walker Thornburgh, and her husband Carmen Gobidas, two sisters, and one brother.
Mildred was born November 11, 1916 in Pleasantville, Iowa. She graduated from Pleasantville High School. She married Carmen L. Gobidas on August 3, 1943 in Oakland, California. She was employed by the Cedar Rapids School System and then by Rockwell-Collins as a secretary for a total of 40 years. She was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. She loved music, dancing, and sewing.
