George K. Baldwin

Condolences to the Baldwin family from the Haney and the Ehrenberger families. George had such a love of music and we appreciate all that he did for the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band and for theater organs.

Condolences to the entire Baldwin family from Dick and Sherry Cornish; Diane Cornish Hayes. We were saddened to learn of George's death but know he is in better place and no longer suffering. The last time we saw him was at Hallmar when Mom (Evy Cornish) was still alive. We had fun visiting with him and catching up on news. Dick and I were talking about all the fun we had at the cabin on the Wapsi with Steve & Nathan and being able to go see Geroge in his Armstrong's office. We thought we were big stuff. We will miss his wonderful outlook on life & his unforgetable music. We have decided to make a donation to CR Community Concert Ass. in his honor. Peace to all of you.

George has always meant a lot to me and my family. I can remember as a child, sneaking snacks from the potluck guests, while George played Dad's piano. It was always nice having George out to the house, because it meant I would get to hear him play. By the way, one of the many weddings he played at was mine. Almost nine years ago now. Right here in Bettendorf. It's sad I never got a chance to introduce my son to him. He got to meet my girls, Carmen and Gwyneth, but never baby Jack. I miss him already. My wife, Michelle, and I remember stopping by his home for a visit, and looking through his WWII scrapbooks. That's something we will both never forget. We also both agree George gave some of the best hugs ever. Big smiles. Nice tight squeezes. We love you George. Always.

Barbara & Molly Martens, and Baldwin family members, Our heart felt sympathy. George's passion, persistence and affability always reminded us of an old friend, who, after surviving horrors of war and cruelty of nature, rebounded by saying "you cannot deny the human spirit." George's spirit will be missed and felt for many years to come. Steve & Megan Ginsberg

George has meant very much to me ever since I had the pleasure of meeting him nearly fifteen years ago. Even though we had an age difference of about sixty years, we were able to connect through the time we spent in Germany, his love of music and performance, and most importantly his love of Christ. Many times I was able to visit George at his home to hear his stories of being in World War II and his time in Germany. The pictures he took were far different from the photos I shot while as an exchange student, and offered a perspective of how times can change. Through these visits, I quickly came to realize George was one person who was willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice in order to protect the people here at home. Other fond memories I have, are of when I was able to see George perform at the Paramount Theater for Palm Sunday. I sat in the front row with some friends and when it was time for him to perform, one of the friends mentioned that there would be bar-b-que ribs ready for him after the show. Of course he shot us a glare and had a quick smile to follow. His kind spirit and being willing to lift others up when he saw the need, reflect what Christ looks for in one of His followers. George was a veteran, a hero and a good friend. Ruth, Jude and I will miss him.

Family of George K. Baldwin I was very saddened to read about the passing of George and not be able to attend his visitation due to a prior committment for work. I met George years ago through my dear friend Terry Rasmussen Trickey and her family - George was a good family friend. I also had the opportunity to continue this friendship during my years at Armstrong's. George was a bright and multi talented man and Cedar Rapids has lost a well respected, loyal and dedicated citizen. My sympathies to all of his family.

My family knew George because he and my late husband John were both members of the El Kahir Shrine Band. He was such a talented musician and shared his talents with many people. We have enjoyed many Cedar Rapids Community concerts because George promoted them. He will be missed. My family and I send our sincere sympathy to George's family.

Dear family, I have been blessed to know George. I served on the Municipal Band Commission with him, and my Dad and he were friends on many levels. We were farmers and we took cream to the creamery long ago. I always appreciated George's dignified behavior and professionalism. And he was fun. One of those "greatest generation" legends. I will miss him, but will remember a wonderful person, an inspiration in many ways. My deepest sympathy. Joanne K. Chadima My dad was Joseph F. Cerveny

Dear Family, George and my Dad, Allyn Neubauer, were longtime friends from working at Armstrong's together. George would come over to Amana for a Christmas dinner, with presents in tow. He would ask me to play piano for him; I'd ask him to play for me; he'd say how good I was, I'd be amazed at how great a musician he was. Sometimes we could go ice skating. Once he cut a corner with his skate blade so sharp that it shone a bright streak all night. He was thoughtful and sensitive, getting me gifts a growing girl would like. He played piano for our wedding. We got compliments on the happy, upbeat, "big band" type tunes he chose. He was such a neat, amazing person. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you miss and remember him. Blessings, Heather(Neubauer)Robinson

My condolences to the family. I did not know George, but I am a Shriner and past master of our Masonic Lodge #377. We are always saddened by the loss of one of our fraternity. George's love of theater organ caught my eye, as I work for Allen Organ Company. I'm sure he provided many people with happiness during his lifetime through his musical talent. Regards, Bruce
