William A. “Bill” Burton, 89, of 1007 23rd St. SE, died Sunday, November 8, 2009 in St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. David Hohmann of First Congregational Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include a daughter Mary (Jerry) Schaefer of Marion, son Richard (Jan) of Carmel, Indiana, son Robert (Debbie) of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, sister Loretta (Harry) Lackey of Orlando, Florida, brother Burl Peppler of Baggs, Wyoming, seven grandsons, two great grandsons, one great granddaughter, and a very special friend, Gertrude Barkwill. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia (Crew), his parents, and one brother.

William was born November 28, 1919, in Salida, Colorado. He proudly served in the US Navy during WW II from January 1942 through November 1945. He married Virginia Crew on January 14, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. She died in 1998. He worked for Rockwell-Collins in Cedar Rapids for over 30 years. He was a longtime member of First Congregation Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and one of his favorite locations was the bank of a trout stream in the Colorado Mountains.
