Katheryn Bette Novak, 86, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Deacon Phil Saunders will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Leonard; daughters Sherin Novak of Solon, Karin (Bob) Novak of Morganton, NC, and Kathleen Martin of Cedar Rapids. Also survived by four grandchildren, Josh (Krista) Novak, Mike Novak, and Ryan and Matt Martin; and two great granddaughters Ava and Clara Novak.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Pam Novak, brothers Robert and Eugene Burrier, and a lifelong friend Phyllis Stolba.
Katheryn was born August 22, 1923 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Ellis and Florence (Raines) Burrier. She married Leonard J. Novak on February 6, 1948 in Cedar Rapids.
Katheryn was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy Waves serving from 1944 to 1946. Katheryn was an adventurous soul who loved her family and life and would greet everyone with a bright smile. She was an avid bowler for team Prime Timers and an extraordinary scrabble player who enjoyed beating the pants off everyone. She also enjoyed learning new things on her laptop computer.
