J. Scott "Scotty" McIntyre

It is with great sadness that I read that Scotty had passed away. As a former employee of United Fire & United Life Companies, I will forever remember what a great leader he was for your company & the city of Cedar Rapids. I remember the times when Scotty would take the time out to talk to me in the hallway or even just stop by to say hi to Phil & me. He was one to never forget that even the lowest employees on the totem pole were important in the day to day running of his company. My sincere sympathy to all of the current employees of United Fire Group & to Scotty's family. Sincerely, Rhonda (Geltz) Koppenhaver

My memories of Scotty began in 1966 when I started with the company. Scotty was 33 and I was 24. For the next 39yrs I had the privilege and honor to work for and with Scotty. For Scotty, all of his employees were important to him, at every level, and, he expected the very best from them. With that, he provided for 2nd to none in education, training, state of the art technology, benefits, and, working conditions. He truly loved his people and he showed it. Scotty's humor is well known and he mixed it masterfully with a lighting fast mind and memory that kept the best of the best on their toes. He inspired and was admired. I will always be grateful for my ride with Scotty. Bob De Camp

Many, many moons ago I worked for Iowa River Power company restaurant as a hostess. I had the distinct pleasure of taking Scotty's arm and escorting him to his table on a reglular basis. He had such a great sense of humor and always made me smile! To this day I often think of him (as early as last week)after all these years as someone I admired. Please accept my condolences. Dee Ann, Valerie and I were greatly saddened when we heard of Scotty's passing. It was only a few weeks ago when we had such a wonderful lunch together at Santacafe. At the time Scotty seemed so full of life it's hard to believe he has now left us. We will always remember the great times we had together on the MNMF trips. What a great group and what great memories to cherish! We look forward to getting together with you once you return to Santa Fe. Love, Bud and Valerie Hamilton

I met Scotty while working at the Cedar Rapids Country Club. He came to the grill almost everyday. He was one of the nicest people I ever met, he had lots of stories to tell. I will miss him dearly. My condolences to his family. He will be greatly missed.

I had the opportunity to met Scotty while working as his former caregiver. I was sadden greatly to learn of his passing. I recently was looking into contacting he and his wife Dee, not knowing they had returned to Cedar Rapids. The McIntyre family is a special family in that I cared for Scotty shortly after his mother passed away, whom I also cared for. Scotty was a great person. He was a fun and caring individual who will greatly be missed by so many friends and family members. May God be with you Dee in this difficult time!

I have known Scotty for over 44 years since I started working at United September of 1965. He was always so nice to me. He would always give me a big smile and said "Hi Nancy" every time he saw me. I will miss that. Our thoughts and prayers are with Scotty's family. Nancy & Bob DesCombes

I met Scotty briefly on my first day of employment 15 years ago and then didn't see him again for some time. When I did, he called me by name and I will never forget how amazed I was. He had a fantastic memory and truly cared about his employees, regardless of their position. I had rarely experienced this with past employers. I am proud to be a part of the United Fire Group and honored to have worked for and with such a brilliant man. We will miss him!

I called a few months ago the thank Mr. McIntyre for a generous gift he gave to United Way Santa Fe County. He was so very gracious and insisted on thanking me for taking the time to call to thank him. He made me feel like he truly appreciated my call. I know he got many just like mine. He was one of the most lovely and generous individual I have had the privilige of talking with.

Though I met rather recently, about two years ago, his love of life and magnetic energy was evident and touched me deeply. My heartfelt sympathy to Dee Ann and the whole family and family of friends. I know a spirit as warm as his will be missed by many. God bless you, Scotty, for your radiance.
