Scotty McIntyre, 76 of Cedar Rapids and Santa Fe, NM died Tuesday October 6, 2009 at his home in Cedar Rapids of cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM on October 12, at the Cedar Rapids Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dee Ann; a son, Kent and his wife, Kathy of Gahanna, OH; a daughter Kaye Drahozal and her husband, Chris of Lawrence, KS; and two sisters, Susan Carlton of Orchard Park, NY and Margaret Pless of Durham, NC. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Angela, Jeffrey, Sarah, Daniel, Emily, Michael and Nicholas McIntyre; and Stephanie, Matthew and Julia Drahozal. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Scotty was born on May 10, 1933 in Cedar Rapids, the son of J. Scott and Mildred Reynolds McIntyre. He graduated from the University of Iowa and from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He married Marilyn Kottmeier in 1957. They were later divorced. He married Dee Ann Bernhard on January 19, 1995 in Santa Fe.
Scotty was with United Fire & Casualty Company for over 50 years as President and CEO. He has served as Chairman since 1975. He contributed to many social, civic, and charitable organizations. He served on the Board of Trustees of Four Oaks, the United Cerebral Palsy Association, the Children’s Home of Cedar Rapids (Tanager Place) and many others. Scotty served two terms in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1967 to 1971 and was a member of Lloyd’s of London for 20 years.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given in Cedar Rapids, to Four Oaks, the Community Health Free Clinic, or Mercy Hospice; in Santa Fe memorials may be given to the St. Elizabeth’s Homeless Shelter in Scotty’s name.
