I have many fond memories of Paul from All Saints, Regis and working side by side at Cork N Fork. I think if you were to ask anyone from the class of '85 to name one person who got along with everyone it would be Paul. He was one of the most genuinely kind people I've ever met. Paul was such a great guy that I was surprised he was two years ahead at Regis (thought it was one). Paul was a breath of fresh air. He was so genuine and likeable (everyone at Regis loved Paul Kenney and thought he was the coolest). I'd only seen him once since high school, bumping into him a couple of years ago - I remember him not pretending to be something he wasn't and telling it like it was, kind of no nonsense but in a gentle way. We miss you Paul and will love you forever. Deepest sympathies to the Kenney family.

Paul had a gift for making others feel special and included. At the 20th reunion for the Regis Class of '85 four years ago, I think each person Paul talked to -- and he talked to everyone -- walked away feeling he or she was the person Paul had been most looking forward to seeing and catching up with. He was just as kind and funny as he'd been at 17, and his love for family and friends was clear. Deepest sympathies to all who mourn him.

To the Kenney family we are so sad to hear of Paul's passing. The Young family spent many nights at the Kenney house with the Wolf and McGrath clan and those memories will always be with us as we think of Paul. Paul was incredible and well liked by all who interacted with him. Reading these messages is a great indication of the man he was....kind, warm, loving and a lot of fun. Paul had such an incredible and positive impact on my life and the lives of so many others. Without him, I would not be the person I am today and am forever grateful for the time spent with Paul, his family and friends. Never judgmental, always able to put even difficult events in perspective, I'm a better person for having known Paul and will miss him greatly. He was so proud of each and every one of you and proud to be a part of such an amazing and strong family. Paul was the kindest person you could ever meet or ever want to know. We feel fortunate to call Paul our best friend and Uncle Paul. He was so special to us and leaves a huge hole in our hearts. I had the great fortune of working with Paul on several movies. Upon meeting him, I was captivated by his sincerity, kindness, and sensitivity. To the Kenney Clan: On behalf of all of the Marshalls, know that we are thinking of you and praying for you as you nurse your broken hearts. We cannot begin to imagine the wrenching pain you suffer with and the cross you must bear now and in the days, months and years ahead without your beloved Paul. Our hearts, too, have been wounded upon hearing the news of his passing, for there were very few men made like him. He was a unique soul and extraordinary friend to all. Simply put, as is consistently noted here, Paul was a genuinely nice guy who loved his family and cared as deeply about his friends and, for that matter, all who crossed his path. There's not much more we or anyone can say to help you confront this devastating loss, other than to assure you there are countless people who are with you in person and in spirit to support you. Truly, Paul had not one enemy. And that is a testament only a blessed few are fortunate to have written about them once their lives here on earth have been lived. God be with you, our friends. We mourn with you.

Dear Kenney's, Unfortunately the loss of Paul makes us all reflect back on what a wonderful person not only he was but your entire family is all about; caring, passionate, social, & community based. I fondly remeber the days of knowing Paul from Van Vechten Park/CR Kids League (Jack was still my favorite coach ever!), Bever Park Pool, Cork 'n Fork, and other southeast side spots, Regis, and eventually a visit or two to Loras. Paul was a great kid with a constant smile on his face, one that will be greatly missed! Our best to the Kenney's during this most difficult time.

My first recollection of meeting the extended Kenney Family was goofing around with Paul as kids. I didn't even realize there were so many of you until years later, as he seemed the center of the hub at the time. He was always quick to flash that Kenney smile and have a quick joke or just time to chat. My brother and I were reminiscing about times we'd "run" with Paul during high school. Always easy going and likable, fun to be around. Although we attended a different high school we nearly felt that he had been a part of ours as he mixed so well with all. I know you have had such a difficult year and my heart just breaks for you all to have this terrible blow. You are an outstanding family and I know your combined strength will be enough to carry you and your mom through. Many prayers and much love.

I met Paul through Martha Young years ago at Elmcrest. He was a senior in high and I was a sophomore at Wash. I thought it was SO COOL that he actually held a long conversation with me. When I would run into him later in life, he always went out of his way to say "Hi" and ask about me, my life and what I was up to. He was a caring, fun, thoughtful guy who treated people with so much respect! I'm a better person for knowing Paul Kenney. I will forever hold memories of Paul close to my heart. Paul and I went to High School together but I didn't get to know him until a few years ago when we, along with a few fellow classmates, put together our 20 year class reunion. I had a great time getting to know Paul and finding out what a great guy he was. He talked often about his family and friends, and I could tell they were all very important to him. We had a great time at our reunion, and at every reunion from now on, Paul will be very fondly remembered and greatly missed. I am so glad that I was given the chance to know him. Dear Kenney Family- I just learned of Paul's passing this morning and I am truly saddened. I worked with Paul & Lisa at Cork n' Fork in the 80's & I can honestly say I've never had so much fun at work. Paul was not only the nicest guy you ever had the honor of knowing, he was also the funniest! Paul spoke of his family often, to the point where I actually felt like I knew each and every one of you. Over the years, I did have the pleasure of meeting many of you at the deli and at family parties. Now, with the loss of Paul, there will be a lot less laughter in the world. Sincerely- Amy Weaver

My sincerest condolences to Paul's extensive family and friends. I am so sad to have just learned of Paul's passing. He was, without a doubt, a fantastic great guy. I first met Paul upon my family moving to Cedar Rapids when I was in the middle of 7th grade. Entering a new school in the middle of the school year is not easy but Paul was one of the first kids I met at All Saints and we quickly became friends. I have many fun and fond memories of Paul from that time onward through high school, hanging out at each other's houses along with various high school adventures. Paul always had a kind, fun and welcoming heart...and he always brought out a smile in everyone. Paul will be missed! My thoughts and prayers are with Paul and his extensive family, relatives and friends. May Paul rest in the peace of Christ. God bless.

I first met Paul over 30 years ago when he was up to vist family in Highland Park. His cousin John and I were best friends. We reconnected a few years ago when he moved to New York. I will always remember his great sense of humor and his quick wit; I am sure it will be missed by all. While his time in New York was brief, it was great to hang out with someone from "back home." I've been reading the posts for the past few days and am so touched by everyone's words and so grateful that I too was able to call Paul a friend. As I looked around the room at the prayer service and church I was moved by the love of his family and the impact he had on so many of his classmates. Some kept in touch all the time and others like myself hadn't talked to him in years, but we all felt the same....connected to this great man who had an incredibly big heart. You can shed tears that they've gone, Or you can smile because they have lived. You can close your eyes and pray they'll come back, Or you can open you eyes and see all they have left you. Your heart can be empty because you can't see them, Or your heart can be full of the love you've shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember them and only that they've gone, Or you can cherish their memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, Be empty and turn your back, Or you can do what they'd want; Smile, open your eyes, love and journey on.
