Eugene R. Braden, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday October 1, 2009 at the Sigourney Care Center. Services: 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Julie Sterling of Sigourney Presbyterian Church. Friends may call after 11:30 a.m. at the chapel until service time. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
He was born in Malcom, Iowa,and was the son of Everett and Bertha Tollefson Braden. He attended a one room school, 8 years, Lincoln # 3 in Poweshiek County and graduated in 1939 from Guernsey High School. He lived with his parents and farmed until he moved to Toledo, Iowa in 1945. He then lived in Colorado Springs from 1949 until moving back to Cedar Rapids in 1953. He worked at Troy Laundry & Dry Cleaning until he retired in 1983. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and I-Club supporter for years, and was known as the “Golden Hawk,” and in fact supported the Golden Hawk Golf Tournament.
He is survived by a brother, Howard Braden of Hudson, sisters, Opal VanWinkle of Davenport, Donna Linnenkamp of Sigourney and Carol Gordon of Beaverton, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Vivian and Delores Braden.
His life was involved with family and friends.
