Doreen & Family.... Four years ago we relocated to northwest Iowa. We continue to read the Gazette online to stay aware of news, happenings, and our friends in Cedar Rapids. We were deeply saddened to read of your loss of such a loved one. We extend our sincere sympathies to you and your fine family. It seems like yesterday when we were all together in Compass Class at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Steve's sudden passing. My heart goes out to Mrs. Meier (Doreen) and the Meier brothers and especially to Steve's daughters. I know how much this baseball-loving family looked up to and loved Steve, and what an important role he played in the family. He was a good man who always had a smile on his face and could put one on all of ours. What can anyone say to comfort you, other than to let you know you are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time in your lives. We are so sorry for your loss. To the Steve Meier's Family, With surprise and sadness, I write to the Meier's Family. I am so sorry to hear of your personal loss and to know another peer of mine (a 1976 graduate) from Washington High School has passed. Steve was a star athlete so many years ago at Washington High School. Knowing him then, I knew he had such a bright future ahead. To All of the Meier families, I was absolutely devastated to read of Steve's death. I have such wonderful memories of him, along with Matt Steitzer, Rob Schladetzky, Bob Stewart, Pookie Hobbs and the rest of the 'gang', and all the hours they spent at my house. We always knew if Stevie was there it would mean hours of laughter and good times. I remember the horrible snowstorm that crippled the city, yet they all managed to get to my house and dig me out; the great music; the laughter; the wonderful breakfasts they all cooked; the baseball; the camaraderie; the genuine friendships. I cannot remember those days without remembering Steve. What a dear, sweet soul he was, and I so enjoyed his company. It has been many years since I last saw him, but reading of his death brought all the memories rushing back. My thoughts are with you all during this very sad time. Yet another life lost way too soon. Be strong and think of happier times. We all know he is in a better place, yet it is hard to imagine going on without him. With loving memories, Peachie Carey

Mrs. Meier. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sons. It has been years since I had seen Steve but his picture reminds me of the infectious smile and the love he had for life. I will always remember Steve and the never ending energy he had on the baseball field. Steve was one-of-a-kind in that he never quit. I have a big smile thinking of Steve and how dirty he would get his uniform going all out. Mrs. Meier you were always there for Steve and can always be proud of what Steve accomplished. To Steve's family, So sorry for your loss. I graduated with Steve. The obit chronology sounds like Steve had a wonderful life after H.S. My heart goes out to Tori and Kobi that they will not have the continued privilege of having Steve's presence in their lives. And to Steve's parents, what an unimaginable loss this must be for you. To Steve's brothers, I can imagine the deep and endearing bond you share and how that bond must feel broken and weakened at this time. I wish you all strength to find peace in your memories of Steve. For the first time ever I checked this website to read about my aunt Ruth Seery, who passed away recently. In the process I discovered that one of my boyhood pals, Steve Meier, had left us. I'm shocked and saddened. My heartfelt condolences to his family. I remember Steve distinctly as lightning-quick, both on his feet and in his humor. A good sport, in every sense of word, always fun and sometimes a little crazy to that end. I feel very fortunate to have shared some of our formative years and, now, to have such fond memories of Steve's very sweet persona. I regret having never seen him since high school, but I trust that such a reunion would have brought a lot of laughter and joy. What a great guy!

Hello Meier family, About 55 of us would get up at 530AM to go to basketball practice in 7th grade at Franklin. I think that's where I first got to know Steve. Steve was either #1 on the "B" team or 6th man on the "A" team--just a darn good athlete and always a great sport. I still remember he and others encouraging me while I got my on;y 30 seconds of fame that season in a "C" game at Wilson! Everyone on this message board has summed up what Steve was all about as a person, and those words are a fitting tribute to a very noble person who made all of us better persons as we treked through adolesence and our lives. May warm and good memories help lift your sprits during these anxious times. Sincerely, Wade Wagner. Class of '76 Washington High School

Mrs. Meier and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I was an American Legion baseball teammate of Steve's. I have great memories of playing together. Meier Family, Knew Buck since I moved to Lewiston in 1984. Fished and camped with him, caught steelhead, smallmouth bass, cuthroat, rainbow, catfish and carp. Had the best hands of any infielder I have ever seen play baseball or sofball. Soft hands, lightning fast feet, cannon arm. Laughed with Steve much when he lived with Dana. Burnt many a burger and sipped many a brew with him too. I will miss him, I will miss hearing him laugh. Had his phone number in my head the week he passed and did not call. Sorry I did not. Glad I got to know him and loved the guy like a brother. My families prayers are with all of you and Tori and Kobi. Jeff Sayre & Family Lewiston, Idaho

Jonathan and Meier Family, I am so sorry to read of Steven's passing. Although I'm only now reading his memorial this April of 2010, I hope you return to this guest book again to see that even as time passes you are thought of. My mother was my only link to Cedar Rapids for the past many years and with her own passing last year, I'm not as current on things that happen 'back home'. Mrs. Meier, I'm sure you won't remember me but you were always one of my favorite moms at my brother, Steve's, baseball games...he played with Charlie. My other favorite was Mrs. Fleckenstein because she could whistle really loud using two fingers in her mouth! I always remembered you were such a nice woman and the sons that I knew were really nice boys. I'm so truly sorry for your loss - Ann
