Memorial

Wesley J. Prokop, Jr. 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed quietly into the arms of Jesus on August 21, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Rick Gail officiating. Interment will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Monday, August 24, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.

Wes is survived by his wife Bernice of 63 years; children Ron (Julie) Prokop of Solon, Sue (Roger) Jensen of Cedar Rapids, and adopted daughter Rosie; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wesley J. and Marvel (Nandell) Prokop; a son Danny Ray; one brother; and two sisters.

Wesley John Prokop, Jr. was born September 4, 1928 to Wesley and Marvel (Nandell) Prokop in Cedar Rapids. He married Bernice Hagerman on August 30, 1947 in North Liberty, IA. Wes was a painting contractor for over 60 years.

Wes was a member of Cedar Rapids Homebuilders, past president of PDCA, past president of WFLA, Lodge 500, Elks, VFW and Eagles Club. He greatly enjoyed slots, camping, fishing, woodworking and his cabin. Wes was blessed to have a very unique and joyous personality with a laugh recognized by all who knew him. He loved everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all.

Family would like to express a special thank you to the St. Luke’s Hospice and to the St. Luke’s Hospital staff for the great care given to Wes and the family.
