Maxine M. Bortz, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Hiawatha Care Center, Sunday, July 26, 2009. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Maxine is survived by husband, Willard; sons, Rodney (Gayle) Bortz of Chariton, and Craig Bortz of Cedar Rapids; sister, Marian (Don) Schuldt of Montezuma; brother, LaVerne (Judy) Doty of Deep River; grandchildren, Shelly (John) Greving, Laura and Anna Bortz, and Ashley Bortz; and great grandchild, Olivia Greving.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dana Bortz; and sister, Bernice Baum.
Maxine was born on February 13, 1926 in Iowa County to Lacy and Emma Doty. She married Willard A. Bortz on January 4, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. Maxine was employed by Mid American Freight Lines for over 18 years and had several other jobs before retiring in 1983.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, ballroom dancing, and braiding rugs. She loved to cook and bake. Her greatest joy was spending time with her sons and their families.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
