Iona Mae “Cathy” (Fields) Weld, 67, of Fairfax, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at the Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, following a short battle with cancer. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 4 to 7 PM Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel in Cedar Rapids. A private family inurnment service will precede the gathering.
Cathy was born January 2, 1942 in the state of Ohio to Eddie and Lola (Clark) Fields. On August 3, 1968, she married John Weld at the “Little Brown Church in the Vale” in Nashua, Iowa. She was valedictorian of the Montezuma High School class of 1959 and a 1962 graduate of Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse before retiring to become a homemaker. Later, she spent time as a school volunteer and worked as an in-home child-care provider. She enjoyed bird-watching and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Juanita See.
Survivors include her husband, John Weld of Fairfax: two children, Aimee (Todd) Hospodarsky of Monticello, Iowa, and Andy (Jena) Weld of Blytheville, Ark.: four fantastic grandchildren, Tyler and Grant Hospodarsky, and Katie and Drew Weld; and two brothers, Ed (Eula) Fields of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Don (Sandy) Fields of Brighton.
