Memorial
Darwyn D. Darrow, 73, of Hiawatha went to be with our savior on July 19, 2009 at the Hiawatha Care Center. Per Darwyn’s wishes, his body has been cremated. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Pastor Rick Gale will officiate.
Darwyn is survived by his wife Vonda of Hiawatha; son Daniel and wife Christine Darrow and their children Patrick, Christopher, and Kevin of Denver, CO; daughter Diane Steger of Marion her children with Scott Steger Jared, Ryan, and Leigha; mother Alta Darrow of Martelle; 3 brothers, Larry and wife Jan, Galen of Martelle, and Dwight and wife Melva of Greeley; and 1 sister, Rita Vassar of Marion; friends of the family, Craig and Kathy Stallman and their children, Tyler and Mickala Stallman.
Also surviving, brothers-in-law, Jerry Shaw of Huntsville, AL, Ralph and wife Sue Shaw of Fairfax; sisters-in-law Rhoda and husband Bob Bauer of Cedar Rapids, Vickie Shaw and friend Tom of Colorado.
Waiting in heaven for Darwyn are his father, Wilbur Darrow; father-in-law, Clifford Shaw; brother-in-law Ed Vassar, friend of the family, Jessica Stallman; cousin, Darrel Grassfield and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Darwyn Dewane Darrow was born August 6, 1935 in Iowa City the son of Wilbur and Alta (Simmons) Darrow. He married Vonda Fern Shaw on March 1, 1958 in Cedar Rapids. He served his country in the United States Army. Darwyn worked at Collins Radio for 35 years before his retirement in 1991.
He enjoyed vacations, traveling with special friends Dean and Joyce Walker, LaVern and Sue Shadden, Irv and Marlene Votroubek, and Darrell and Margaret Grassfield, camping, playing cards, and his family and friends.
Darwyn was a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.
Special thanks to the Hiawatha Care Center Staff and Dr. Mary Ann Nelson for all the care given and love shown to Darwyn while he was living in the care center.
