Evelyn, my prayers and sympathy go out to you and your family. Our many conversations in your office were an inspiration to me about overcoming sad things in our lives as you shared Dick's medical problems and successes. Your faith will bring you through all of this just as it has for me with Matthew's death last year.

Please know how sorry we are to hear about Dick passing. We were so lucky to spend time with him in Florida. We will think about the hours spend by the pool talking about every subject. What a joy and priveledge it was for us to have Dick and Evelyn as neighbors in North Liberty. Dick and I engaged in numerous conversations concerning our beloved Hawkeyes. We were thrilled to learn of the sucessful transplant. A great man who touched many people and my family was one of those blessed to have known him. He will continue to live in those he met. Our prayers and thoughts to family and friends. May God Be With You.

Evelyn - Our hearts and prayers are with you. Having been transplanted only 5 days after Dick and spending many weeks in the hospital at the same time with you, we feel like part of your family. Only a select few know how difficult the transplant process can been. Dick was a fighter and you are a very strong family. If you need anything don't be afraid to ask. Dearest Evelyn and Family: My heart and prayers are with you all. Although I never got to meet or even talk to Dick; since he became ill just as we were making direct contact, I know he was a good man. Our letters, photos, and emails are what brought us together so far and are dearly cherished. I am so grateful that he was allowed a new life for several months after receiving the gift of Lungs from my son Chris on November 10th, 2009. I wish I could have known him like many others that were so blessed to have made memories with him. I know that faith will carry you through this time of sorrow and those yet to come. I believe, without a doubt, that both our guys are dancing in heaven! I will continue to hold you up in prayer and close to my heart. With love, care, and prayers to you all,

My heart aches for you and everyone who knew Dick. I will hold on to the fond memories of talking with Dick about everything, and the care he always seemed to have for me and my life. While I didn't know him that well, we had this special connection and I always looked forward to sitting with him and catching up. His gentle way always made me feel safe and peaceful.
