Hazel K. Swedberg, 90, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Nora Springs and Mason City, died at St. Luke’s Hospital, Saturday, July 4, 2009. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Hazel is survived by children, Carol (Charles) Meyer of Highland Park, IL, Carl (Bobbie) Swedberg of Marion, Jane (Keith) Bartley of Abilene, KS, and Joe (Amy) Swedberg of Austin, MN.; grandchildren, Rachel Meyer, Sarah and Brian Swedberg, Paul, Ross, and Eric Bartley, Brody (Lydia) Swedberg, Lindy (Keith) Kavanaugh; and great granddaughter, Hazel Swedberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Vern Miller; a sister, Helen Miller; and daughter, Judith Suzanne Swedberg.

Hazel was born on November 26, 1918 in Kesley, Iowa to Oscar and Nellie Miller. She was married to Glen Swedberg on February 18, 1938 in Nora Springs, Iowa. They were later divorced. Hazel was employed by AC Neilson Company for 15 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Rebekkah Lodge, and various other clubs.

Hazel was active at the Meadows Apartments and participated in bingo, and Book Club. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was delighted to have her first great granddaughter named after her.
