Alberta Laura “Bert” Dirks, 82, of 51 Samoa Dr. in Hiawatha died Monday at St. Lukes Hospital after an extended illness. Services at 10:00 AM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday.

Survivors include her loving and caring husband of 49 years, Willis, children; Char Wink and husband Jack Gillick of Marion, Robert (Teresa) Dickson of Cedar Rapids, Joe (Laura) Dickson of Des Moines, Judy (Jerry) Moyle of Apache Junction, AZ., Mary (Bill) Waddle of Norman, OK., John (Irene) Ford of Monticello, WI., Debbie Mundorf (Joel Brokaw) of Martelle, Diane (Pat) Kilburg of Cedar Rapids and step-daughters, Cathy and Sherry of California. Alberta’s family also includes 18 grandchildren and a special “grandchild” Ryan Moyle and 11 great grandchildren; sisters include Frances Burns, Betty (David) Wittenberg, Donna (Hughey) Fults, Joann Fetters, a brother, Albert (Butch) Lathrop and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Harold and Elmer "Junior” Lathrop.

Alberta was born on January 20, 1927 in Anamosa, the daughter of Elmer and Helen Mere Lathrop. She married Willis F. Dirks on January 16, 1960 in Iowa City.

Alberta worked for ARA services at Rockwell, retiring in 1989. Her favorite past time included bingo, playing cards and spending time with family.

The family would like to thank all of the Manor Care staff. Special thanks to Andrew and Melissa for their loving care. Many friends were made at Manor Care especially her roommate, Laima and friend Linda H.

Alberta, affectionately known as “Grandma-Great and Bingo Bert” was truly a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grand and great grandmother who will be greatly missed.

A memorial fund has been established.
