Rita M. Ungs, 83, of 859 Kerry Lane SE died Friday June 19, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy after a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 AM on Monday at St. Matthew Catholic Church where friends may call after 9:00 AM on Monday. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane (Gerald) Monserud of Iowa City, a son, Tom (Janet) Marbach of Cedar Rapids, three step-daughters, Deborah (Wenger) Ungs, Ellen Angell and Anne Tapp all of Rockford, Illinois; two step- sons, Greg Ungs of Wichita Falls, Texas and Steven Ungs of Rockford, Illinois. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Nicholas (Heather) Monserud, Bryan Monserud, and several step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a sister, Lucille Jenn, three brothers, Ralph, Raymond and Howard Eischeid and a step-son, Matt Ungs.

Rita was born on Dec. 9, 1925 in New Hampton, the daughter of John and Susan Rausch Eischeid. She married Norbert Marbach on June 30, 1947 in North Washington. He died in 1973. She later married Donald Ungs on May 15, 1993 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 2005. She worked outside the home at JCPenneys and later at Iowa National Insurance Company until retirement. Rita was a faithful member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend who touched the lives of those who knew her. She was a talented seamstress, crafter, cook and did daily crosswords up until her hospitalization. Rita was greatly loved and will be missed by all.

Memorial donations may be given to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Rita’s name.
