Memorial

Marshall LeRoy Clossen, 89, of Maquoketa, Iowa, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, in the Genesis West Hospital in Davenport, Iowa, following a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 7 PM on Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. Rev. Jeff Dadisman will officiate. Entombment with military honors will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving to honor his memory are his wife of 67 years Frances, a son Steven (Brenda) Clossen of Maquoketa, three daughters Cynthia (Jim) Cox of Cedar Rapids, Connie (Don) Freytag of Marion, and Catherine (Henry) Hansen of Pt. Charlotte, Florida, nine grandchildren, Matt and Christopher Stookey, Lee and Eric Hansen, Jason Steffens, Elizabeth Molitor, Justin, Bryan, and Caitlin Clossen, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Mildred Clossen, and a brother John.

Marshall was born February 14, 1920 in Ollie, Iowa. He married Frances Wiggins on February 1, 1942 in Memphis, Missouri. He was drafted into the Army March 19, 1942, and served with the 358th Medical detachment, 90th Division, Third Army, in the invasion of Normandy beach during WW II. He was a member of the Marion American Legion Post No 298. He enjoyed crafting, camping, square dancing, and traveling after his retirement.

A memorial fund has been established in his name at the Linn Area Credit Union in Marion, Iowa.
