Joseph Charles Petrak, 89, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Ely, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Wednesday.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, a brother Milo, and a sister Louise Bradley

Joseph was born March 1, 1920 in Linn County, Iowa to Charles and Mary Castek Petrak. He married Doris Zbanek on October 13, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She died May 22, 2003. He was a WW II veteran serving in the Army Air Corps. He worked in assembly at Cherry Burrell for 31 years. He was a member of the Ely American Legion Post No 555, and VFW Post No 788. He enjoyed his dogs, gardening, traveling, and spending time agitating his nieces and nephews.
