Dr. Ericson was a great source of inspiration and enthusiasm during my time at Coe where I majored in Sociology. I have many fond memories of her and her beautiful smile. Her great spirit will always be with us.

We knew Mary Alice through Peoples Church where she was a passionate, untiring advocate for peace and other justice issues. She was a great role model for me (Bev). I enjoyed talking with her about everything, including freezing Lamb's Quarters, the UN, and walking as good exercise. She was one of a kind and will be sorely missed. Our sympathies to all.

We greatly appreciate Mary Alice's years of dedication to Amnesty International's work on behalf of individuals at risk. As the Urgent Action coordinator for her local Amnesty group in Cedar Rapids, she provided an invaluable contribution to our work helping people facing immediate, life-threatening human rights violations. The hundreds of letters Mary Alice sent had a direct and positive impact on the lives of individuals all over the world. Our sincerest sympathies to her family and friends. Dear Emily and other family members: Mary Alice was one-of-a-kind and someone I will dearly miss. We first became acquainted soon after I arrived at Coe College in 1971 and were friends ever since. She was a thoughtful and intelligent woman with a strong social conscience, working tirelessly and often on behalf of the many among us deserving of greater social justice. You can be well proud of all her many accomplishments and the standard of excellence and involvement that her life exemplified.

I was blessed enough to be a guest in Mary Alice's house a few times in 1980-81. I was a friend of the (Jean Parsons) Patterson family, and she was special to them. I loved her watermelon rind pickles. She shared her flummery recipe with me. She helped me when I was in need. She was an inspiration.
