Cora A. Gettings, 100, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ottumwa died Monday April 27, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center. Memorial mass: 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Mercy Medical Center Chapel. Rev. James Blocklinger will officiate. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday where there will be a rosary at 6:30 PM and vigil service at 8:00 PM by Rev. David O’Connor. There will also be a funeral mass at St. Mary Of The Visitation in Ottumwa on Friday at 10:30 AM. Rev. Ron Young and Rev. Bernard Weir will officiate. Friends may call at the Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM where there will be a rosary recited at 7:00 PM. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Ottumwa.

Survivors include a son, Paul Gettings of Ottumwa and a daughter, Mary Pauline Hook of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jerry, Tom, John, Mona, Mark, Trent, Josh, Mike, Pat, Deb and Jim, 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, a daughter-in-law, Sally Gettings and a son-in-law, Robert Hook . Cora was born on May 3, 1908 in Andalusia, Illinois, the daughter of Phillip and Hannah Nitz Blomme. She married Lewis H. Gettings on Nov. 3, 1931 in Ottumwa. He died in 1980. Cora was a member of St. Mary Of The Visitation in Ottumwa and a member of their quilters club. She attended All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and gardening. Cora was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother who was very proud of her family and loved them very much.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Mary Of The Visitation or All Saints Catholic Church in Cora’s name.
