Floyd L. “Hooker” Cordes, 80, of 348 – 26th Street NW, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospital. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military services by the VFW Post #788. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, Monday, from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Hooker is survived by many nieces and nephews, LeAnn Wigant, Jolene Jensen, Kathy, Paul, and Larry Rose, Geraldine Taylor, Delbert Bahr, Faye Brown, Rose Ellen McAdam, Georgia Dettman, Mickey Campbell, Sharon Roegge, and Ron Emal; several great nieces and great nephews; a host of special friends; and his “girls”, Sara and Midge. He was preceded in death by his wife Merna in 1992; brother, Ronald; and sister, Margaret Hartman.

Hooker was born on October 12, 1928 in Guernsey and married Merna Rose on October 10, 1956 in Moline, IL. He worked for several companies and most recently was employed by FMC, retiring in 1996. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and Past Commander of VFW Post #788 and second district commander VFW, State of Iowa. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Hooker loved to work in his shop, rebuilding equipment.
