Hazel Irene Pettit, 85, of 2740 Towne House Dr. NE died Sunday April 19, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital after an extended illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev Bob Dagit will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Friday.

Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Andrew, a daughter. Janet (Terry) Kuda of Cedar Rapids and a son, Kenneth (Kathryn) of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Dorothy Taylor of Deerfield, Florida. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Hazel was born on May 21, 1923 in Onslow, the daughter of Traverce and Margaret Ahrendsen Starry. She graduated from Olin High School in 1941 and attended Cedar Rapids Business School. Hazel married Andrew E. Pettit on Feb. 16, 1944 in Olin. She was a production control coordinator at W.R. Grace, later Cryovac, for 35 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church and the Cryovac Retirees Club. A memorial fund has been established in Hazel’s name.

The family would like to give special thanks to Care Givers, the staffs at St. Lukes Hospital and Hospice for their support and care. Also thanks to all family and friends who visited and supported us through our journey the past 13 years.
