Memorial
Ruth Ellen (Ruthie) Brown, 76, of Cottage Grove Place, formerly of Marion passed away on April 3, 2009. She courageously battled a second bout with cancer. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Saturday, April 4, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. James Evans officiating. Entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ruth was born May 17, 1932, in Long Beach, CA to Ray and Ellen Sheets. She graduated from Windom High School in Windom, MN. She attended both Northwestern Bible College and Bethel College in St. Paul, MN. She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Brown on June 18, 1955, in Windom, MN.
Survivors include her husband Ken; two sons, Steve (Teri) Lake City, MN and Jeff (Lori) Marion; five grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Stephanie, Keith and Kurt; brother Bob (Ruth) Sheets of Maquoketa; brothers & sisters-in-law Jim & Sharon Evans of NC, Bill & Elaine Bell of FL, Roger McDonald of IL, and many nieces, nephews, and countless close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard and sisters-in-law Ruth Jean Quinn, Mary Kay McDonald, and brother-in-law John Quinn.
Ruthie worked 27 years as a Hostess for Rockwell Collins introducing new employees and families to our community. She also worked part time at First National Bank, Farmers State Bank, volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital, and ushered for both the Cedar Rapids Symphony and Community Theatre. She was a charter member of the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale. Ruthie was a member of New Covenant Bible Church.
Ruthie was known for her Christian Faith, infectious smile and for standing by her faithful, loving husband, two sons and their families. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Cottage Grove Place and St. Luke’s Hospice for their caring support through Ruthie’s recent illness.
A memorial fund has been established.
