Gladys Irene Aakre

Dear Family of Gladys, We drove Meals on Wheels for many years and Gladys was one of the clients. We so much enjoyed delivering to her every Monday and have missed her since she moved from her apartment. We will be out-of-town for both the visitation as well as the memorial service, but want you to know that we'll be thinking of you. Linda and Dick Andersen Meals on Wheels Drivers

I am so sorry to see that I have lost a good friend, Gladys. I met this dear lady a few years ago when I was delivering "Meals on Wheels" to her. We became friends, and she invited me to participate in many Republican Woman Events, and good luncheons at the country club. Because of Gladys, I met many other wonderful Republican women, including Mrs. Mitt Romney, and I volunteered to work at Republican headquarters. I was very sad when I found Gladys had moved, and her phone number no longer was in service, and I did not know where she had gone. I had a wonderful book I wanted to share with her, called "Growing Up Danish", that I thought she would especially enjoy. She was very proud of her Scandinavian heritage. Dear Gladys, I will miss you! You have earned a special place in Heaven!

My Sympathy is entended to the family of Gladys. She was a great lady, I am so glad I was able to get to know her, and visit with her at a couple of Aakre Reunions in Decorah. I wish I could be there for the services, but I'm afraid I am just to far away to come. My mother (Ida Olson Ruby) and Gladys were cousins. Delores

My condolenses to the family of Gladys Aakre. My husband & I first met Gladys in 2001 when we moved into the apt. above hers. She was so nice. I would go down & visit with Gladys many times. She would tell me all about her work at Bishop's, the many trips that she took over the years in the US & the world, her Norweigan heritage & her family. She was still driving in her 90's. I remember one day she made a beet salad and gave me a slice to try (it was good). She was a Republican & her neighbor, Mary, across the hall, was a Democrat. We moved out of our apt. in 2003 but still tried to keep in touch with Gladys the last few years. I would send her a birthday or Christmas card with a picture of my family. She was such a nice lady. It was a pleasure to get to know her. Karen Burrow, Monticello
