Sylvia S Berg
Sylvia is one of the classiest ladies I've known. A wonderful mother and grandmother. She'll be missed by all. I have fond memories of her which I'm thankful for. My deepest sympathies go to her family.

From the first day we met, we knew your love. Your radiance brilliantly lit every space you entered. You gave us a mother's kind, generous, precious, tender love. A gift we will always treasure. We will always remember you. We loved you so very much.

Gregg/Wendy & family-My condolences on the loss of your Mom. I lived at the corner of 60th & Alhambra,Fairway,Kansas,& proud to say your Mom was my Kindergarten teacher at Highlands Grade School,Mission, Ks. She was so kind, positive, patient with us all. I was honored to have known her & benefited from her teaching! My Mom did "Mrs. Berg's" hair in our home during that time, adding to my memories and appreciation.

Mrs. Berg was my kindergarten teacher at Highlands Elementary. The school was growing at a rapid pace and an addition to the building was planned. In 1957-58 though, as I recall, there were something like 57 kindergarteners in the morning group and 58 in the afternoon in one large classroom. Mrs. Berg was my teacher in the morning class. Another teacher had the afternoon class, and I recall seeing her in the background in the morning as well, so they probably assisted each other. As an educator myself now, I have a hard time imagining anything but chaos with that many kindergarteners in one room, but my only recollections of kindergarten are of everything running perfectly smoothly. I regret that, if it did not, I probably drew as much of her attention away as anyone. I was an only child with extreme separation anxiety and poor Mrs. Berg must have had the patience of a saint to keep reassuring me that, yes, my mother would return to pick me up. She held my hand every day as I walked out in trepidation everyday until I spotted my mother's car. I was fine as long as I was busy, and she did keep us quite busy. I remember her playing the piano and teaching us songs. My mother said we must have learned 30 Halloween songs--she did not know there were so many. I cannot tell you the high regard that I have for Mrs. Berg, and that I remember my mother expressing for her as well. She gave me the best possible start in my education, and I count her among those who inspired me to become an educator. After teaching at the upper elementary, preschool, and college level for 17 years, I have been a school library media specialist at Merriam Park Elementary and Horizons Alternative High School in the Shawnee Mission School District for the past five years. I only wish I could have shared fond memories with Mrs. Berg myself.

Sylvia was my father's cousin. I don't think they spent much time together as children, but they fondly remembered each other. Sylvia would come to our farm east of Bartlesville to visit her uncle and my grandfather, Tom P. Steeper, and my dad, Jack Steeper. She and my mother, Julie, became good friends, and we all remember her as a sweet, gracious, and interesting lady. I enjoyed keeping in touch with her through the years. I know she and Mother are continuing their friendship in Heaven. . .
